Industries · How real estate agents get recommended by ChatGPT and AI search
Buyers ask AI about neighbourhoods. Sellers ask it which agent to hire.
Real estate questions are some of the most common local questions people put to AI assistants, from "best school districts in [city]" to "top listing agent in [neighbourhood]". Agents who publish genuine local knowledge get quoted.

What people ask AI assistants
- “Best real estate agent in [neighbourhood] for first-time buyers”
- “What are homes selling for in [neighbourhood] right now?”
- “Is [suburb] a good place to raise kids?”
- “Realtor in [city] who specialises in condos”
Why does AI search matter for real estate agents?
Portals like Zillow and Realtor.com dominate listing searches, and assistants cite them heavily. Where an individual agent can win is local expertise: neighbourhood guides, market notes and clear specialities.
Brokerage templates often give every agent the same thin page. An agent page that says which areas you cover, what kind of clients you work with and how many homes you've sold is far easier for an assistant to recommend.
What we know so far
Full report and method →We haven't scanned real estate agents websites yet, so we won't quote numbers for them. Our first study covered 101 dentist, law-firm and home-service sites. The gaps below are the ones we check for on every small-business site, adapted to how real estate agents are usually found.
The real estate agent checklist
Things to do this week, roughly in order.
- On your agent page, name the neighbourhoods you work in and the kind of clients you help.
- Publish at least one honest neighbourhood guide per area you cover, written from your own experience.
- Make sure your guides and bio are server-rendered text, not only inside an IDX widget.
- List your licence and brokerage as text, as most states require in advertising anyway.
- Add RealEstateAgent schema with areaServed and sameAs links to Zillow, Realtor.com and your brokerage profile.
- Date your market updates, so assistants and readers can tell they're current.
What are the common mistakes, and the fixes?
- 01
Agent pages that are just a headshot and phone number
Add the neighbourhoods you cover, your specialities and recent sales as plain text.
- 02
IDX listings that crawlers can't read
Many listing widgets load in an iframe or with heavy JavaScript. Make sure your own content (guides, about, contact) is server-rendered text.
