About GeoLumen

We help small businesses get found by AI search.

GeoLumen makes free AI search visibility tools (GEO and SEO) for small businesses and offers a paid, one-off AI Visibility Audit ($99, $199 or $349).

More people now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Google's AI Overviews which dentist, lawyer or plumber to call. Those assistants can only recommend a business they can read and understand.

GeoLumen checks whether they can read yours, explains what's in the way in plain words, and helps you fix it.

Why we exist

In October 2026 we scanned 104 small-business websites (dentists, law firms and home-service companies in the US) and analysed 101. The worry is usually that businesses block AI. Almost none do. The real gaps are quieter.

How we work and what we believe

Free tools first. Most fixes are small: a line in robots.txt, a short llms.txt file, a block of schema. You shouldn't have to pay to find out which one you need.

No signup. Every tool works without an account. We read only public files on your site.

Honest results. Nobody controls what an AI assistant says. We show what we found and the likely causes. We don't promise rankings or recommendations.

Paid help only when you want it. If you'd rather have it done for you, the AI Visibility Audit costs $99 / $199 / $349, depending on depth. It's optional, and the free tools don't nag you toward it.

Always labelled. We earn from affiliate links and paid placements in our tool directory. Both are always marked, and paying never changes what we write. Details on our disclosure page.

What we check, and how

  1. 01

    Crawler rules

We read your robots.txt the way the crawlers do (RFC 9309: longest matching rule wins, allow wins a tie) and report each AI crawler separately: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and more. Search crawlers and training crawlers are kept apart, because blocking one is not the same as blocking the other.

  2. 02

    llms.txt

We fetch /llms.txt and check it against the llmstxt.org format: an H1 title, a short summary, and H2 sections of well-formed Markdown links. If you don't have one, we draft it from your homepage or sitemap.

  3. 03

    Schema

We look for JSON-LD that names your business, its type, address, hours and contact details, and generate the Organization or LocalBusiness markup if it's missing.

  4. 04

    Technical SEO

AI search mostly cites pages that search engines can already index. We check 17 basics on a page: status code, HTTPS, noindex, canonical, title, H1, text in the raw HTML, sitemap and more.

    Mentions

We ask AI assistants the questions your customers ask and record whether your business is named, and who is named instead.
